Research Synthesis: Nursing Recruitment and Retention in Newfoundland, Canada The topic of this research synthesis paper is nursing recruitment and retention in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador (NL), Canada. The reason this topic is significant is that there is a shortage of nurses worldwide CITATION NEEDED) and Newfoundland serves as a great illustration because it has many obstacles that it has to overcome, including limited employment for the families of nurses, recent healthcare reforms, and unique challenges of living in a rural environment (CITATION NEEDED). The strategies for recruitment and retention may brign to light the consideration of the needs to both educate and retain nurses in the field, thus may assist in the needs of nurses by considering the needs to both educate and retain nurses in the field. The expected more effective recruitment and retention is better patient outcomes, as units will not be understaffed resulting in less fatigue and burnout which can ultimately lead to errors.
